B. Post-install instructions

  1. You must use the Chrome browser in order to use this extension. Other browsers that are based on Chromium are not officially supported.
  1. In order to use Avochato for Chrome with Salesforce-specific navigation and functionality, you must be an existing Avochato for Salesforce customer. Please visit the Avochato for Salesforce AppExchange listing to trial and/or purchase the package.
    1. If you’ve purchased Avochato for Salesforce licenses, ensure the licenses are assigned to the Salesforce users that you would like to use the extension. If the Avo4SF license isn’t assigned to the Salesforce User, then the Avochato for Chrome extension will not behave or work as intended.
    2. See our Avochato for Salesforce post trial setup guide to apply the licenses to your Salesforce users.
  1. Ensure that the Salesforce User Email matches the Avochato User Email. If the emails don’t match, the chrome extension may not work for that user.
  1. You must connect your Salesforce org to Avochato within the Integrations page in Avochato. This initial connection maps the Salesforce User to the Avochato User via the user’s email address, and will enable the side panel to work for that user while navigating Salesforce.

  1. To map data from your existing Salesforce Leads or Contacts to Avochato, it is recommended to setup a list view sync, so that Avochato contacts and conversations are kept up to date with the latest Salesforce Lead/Contact data. This will also map the Salesforce Record ID and Type to the matching Avochato contact, for accurate conversation navigations within Salesforce and the Avochato side panel

2. How to use

B. Using on Salesforce record pages

By default, anytime you navigate to a new Salesforce Lead or Contact page, the side panel automatically attempts to find the conversation in Avochato that matches the Lead or Contact. This matching is done by Salesforce ID and SObject Type, which is usually originally established by a matching phone number from the Salesforce record to the Avochato Contact.

🔄

The default Salesforce data sync settings make these Salesforce <> Avochato contact associations automatically once the conversation is started. Check your data sync settings or setup list view syncing to ensure your Avochato Contacts and conversations are linked to the appropriate Salesforce records.

To adjust which SObject Types the auto-conversation navigation is enabled on, right click the Avochato icon in the browser bar, and click on the “Options” menu item

Within the Options page, you’ll see “Lead, Contact” as the defaults, allowing auto-navigation for those Salesforce record types.

Notion image

You can add or remove different SObject Types to enable auto-conversation navigation for those record types.

Clearing out all SObject Types within the “Record Navigation Mode” will disable the auto navigation feature, and just allows the Avochato side panel to accompany you around Salesforce and the web.

C. Navigating other Salesforce and non-Salesforce pages

The side panel will accompany you wherever you go in your chrome browser, no matter how many browser tabs you open or close, or what websites you travel to.

Your current Avochato conversation in the side panel will persist, no matter where you clicking around in Salesforce (like into an Account, Opportunity, Report, etc).

The side panel can also accompany you wherever else you go on the web, like LinkedIn, Gmail - anywhere!

3. Tips and tricks

A. One-click New Conversations

If you have a high-volume use case with rich Salesforce contacts / leads that are primed for new SMS conversations, consider using the Preferred Name & Preferred Phone settings within the Options page

Notion image

You can set what data to use from the Salesforce record page in order to auto-populate the Avochato new conversation with the name and phone of choice.

For example, if you set Preferred Name to Customer_Full_Name__c and Preferred Phone to Verified_Phone__c, the side panel will attempt to grab those values from the current Salesforce record page, so that clicking the “+ New” button to start a new conversation will automatically start that conversation, without having to manually fill in the phone or name.

4. Considerations and Limitations in Salesforce

Although this may feel familiar to the Avochato for Salesforce managed package in Salesforce, there are a number of differences to take into consideration:

Feature
Avo4SF
Avo4CE
See Avochato Inbox with Salesforce
One Avochato window that persists across all tabs (no multiple iframes)
❌*
Within the SFDC Record page, see related Avochato conversation
✅
- via direct Salesforce ID and Object Type match
- via Phone number scanning and matching
❌**
Use preferred Name and Phone for one-click new conversations
Sent and receive Avochato messages in real time on the SFDC record

* Every Salesforce tab and subtab potentially loads an Avo4SF component iframe, which significantly affects browser performance as the number of tabs increase. Avo4CE only has one iframe loaded, no matter how many Salesforce tabs or subtabs are opened.

** Avo4SF attempts to show conversations based on any phone matching related to the Salesforce record. The chrome extension only loads conversations based on direct Salesforce ID matching

When to use Avochato for Salesforce

  • If you access Salesforce through a web browser that’s not Chrome
  • If you often have conversations with someone on one phone line, but are related to several Salesforce records, and want to “scan” the Salesforce record phone fields to find a matching conversations
    • Example: one Avochato conversation is related to a few Salesforce Contacts, an Account, as well as an Opportunity and even My_Custom_Object__c
  • If you have multiple conversations for one Salesforce record (like a Salesforce Account), and want to choose which conversation to jump into

When to use Avochato for Chrome

  • If you generally have one-to-one relationships between an Avochato conversation and a Salesforce record
    • Example: one Salesforce Lead matches to one Avochato convo
  • If you want to keep your Avochato inbox and conversations active while you browse the web (i.e. outside of Salesforce)
  • If you need the fastest possible conversation loading time
