How can I improve the quality of my calls made via Avochato?



There are many ways to improve your call quality and avoid choppy calls when using the phone calling feature of Avochato. Listed below are some known ways to achieve that:

Restart your device

More often than not, restarting can fix issues that affect the performance of your device. This clears up the temporary memory of your device and potentially stops any background programs that could be interfering with how your device uses voice and microphone to be used for Avochato phone calls.

Close any demanding tasks especially those your computer can’t handle

Know the capabilities of your computer! Avochato works on almost all devices that has a browser and it is not very demanding on the resources of your device. However, doing complex and resource heavy tasks on the background like video editing or even just having a ton of Chrome tabs open might cause lags and stutter to your system. Lags and stutters, as the name suggests, will also make your call lag and stutter.

Connect to a less congested network

Since Avochato uses the internet to transmit voice, it is a requirement to have a fast and stable internet connection to have good call quality. Connecting to a congested network (either WiFi and wired) can cause choppiness or even dropped calls. This is because the data transmission rate fluctuates since many users are sharing the bandwidth of the network.

Use wired ethernet connection vs WiFi

It is recommended to use a wired ethernet connection if you are using a PC or a laptop since this type of connection can transmit data more stable compared to connecting via a WiFi network.


Here are some reasons your call quality is dropping when connected to a WiFi network:

  • WiFi signal is weak - this can cause dropped data transmission rate which would greatly affect your call quality (choppy call, call ending abruptly, failure to dial). The strength of the WiFi signal you get depends on how far you are from the router and the obstacles between you and the router.
  • Too many users connected to the WiFi network - more people using the same WiFi you are on means the bandwidth is shared across all users. This could mean that your data transmission speed could fluctuate when others do demanding tasks like downloading files, watching videos and streaming music.
  • Bluetooth is interfering with your WiFi connection - Bluetooth interferes with 2.4GHz WiFi networks so if you are using Bluetooth devices like headsets, keyboards, and mouse while connected to a 2.4GHz network, the signals these accessories transmit to your device would most likely be interfering with the WiFi data transmission of your device. This can cause lower overall internet speed and would also affect the quality of your calls. 5GHz WiFi networks (not to be confused with 5G mobile data network) are usually unaffected by bluetooth signal, but this technology is often found on newer equipment.

Disable Experimental QUIC Protocol on Chrome Browser

QUIC is a low-latency transportation protocol often used for apps and services that require speedy online service. This kind of protocol is a necessity for gamers, streamers, or anyone who relies on VoIP in their day-to-day life. We have noted that by disabling QUIC we get better call quality.


NOTE: This isn't a fix all solution for network connectivity issues. Hard-wired ethernet connection will always produce better call quality.

  1. In the Chrome Address bar type:
